- What We Offer

The National History Museum of Latvia invites you to visit its permanent and temporary exhibitions.  The permanent exposition documents the history of Latvia from 9000 BC to 1940, and includes separate exhibitions “Latvian Money through the Centuries” , “Sacral Art” and “The Museum Classroom”.  Each year the Museum presents from between five and seven new temporary exhibitions.  The Museum can be visited by individuals or groups.  Groups have the opportunity to request a guided tour of the exhibitions in Latvian, Russian, English or German.

Museum publications are available at the Museum box office—research papers, object catalogues, studies in Latvian history and souvenirs.

Specialists from the various Museum Departments answer enquiries and  provide consultations.  Specialists from the Archaeology Department undertake archaeological excavations.  Museum conservators perform object research and analysis, object conservation and restoration services.  Both curators and conservators offer training in collections and restoration work.

In 2005 the Museum started a new project “The Accessibility of the exposition of the National History museum of Latvia for blind and weak-eyed people”. The different objects are placed on these stands and are available to touch them. The comments are written in Braille.

The Museum organises conferences, seminars, events, etc.  Scientific readings are held each year in May, in which lectures are presented on current issues in the research of the Museum collections and on the newest historical research methods.
