"The Rescued Heritage. 80th Anniversary of the Restoration Workshops of the National History Museum of Latvia"
The exhibition is open from 4 March 2011 until 17 April 2011
The exhibition ‘’The Rescued Heritage’’ provides a vivid insight into eighty years of rich restoration work experience of the National History Museum of Latvia. The exhibition captures the main stages in the development of restoration at the museum, whilst also accentuating the work of the contemporary restorers. The approach to restoration as a profession, as well as requirements for the restoration process, materials and tools, has changed over time. One of the main objectives of the exhibition is to emphasise the ephemeral nature of the material values unless they are scientifically preserved. Based on the research of scientific literature, as well as the historic truth and craftsmanship of the restorers, the life of antiques and artistic valuables is extended and heritage, received from the previous generations, is rescued.
